Ohio Rustic furniture Makers
Rustic furniture by Ray Christoff" 733 Cambridge Ave. Youngstown, Ohio 44502. 1-330-782-8230
Ray Christoff, born
and raised in Youngstown, Ohio. Graduate of Youngstown State University with
degrees in theology and philosophy. As an adolescent he found an interest in
the various belief systems of the world both past and present. In his senior
year at YSU Ray backpacked India, solo for three months studying their
culture first hand. While there he met the Dalai Lama and visited his home
in Dharamsala. He also visited Pakistan, Nepal and made efforts to enter
Tibet but was stopped at the Tibetan boarder due to the Chinese
restrictions. Since then Ray has traveled to a number of other foreign
countries. Something to do with his Gypsy ancestry, he claims.
Rick and Denise Pratt are known as two of America's leading makers of traditional and contemporary twig furnishings. Their family business, around the bend, is located in a renovated hog barn on a 9 acre farm just north of Wooster, Ohio. This couple grew up in the same west-side Cleveland suburb. The Pratts were married in the late 70's and started their family right away. An old twig rocker, previously purchased by Denise and the introduction to John Phillips well known twig builder, provided the inspiration that started Rick building in 1980.
