North Carolina's Rustic Furniture Makers

Jason Wade

There's no feeling like walking through the woods, and finding the peace and tranquility of a forest slowly growing around you, embracing you with a primal aura of well being. Sensing the history and the ecology of a place that has been quietly living the same way for thousands of years before you stepped there, and will go on for thousands more after you leave. With sights and smells that make you want to take it all in, and keep that feeling with you forever. But it always seems to fade as we walk back into our doors, and back to our hectic lives. Well, I found a way to bring in a small piece of nature’s art into your home. Something that’s serves with both beauty and function. With pieces that inspire both deep thought and conversations for you and your guests. With art that gently reminds you about your time in the forest, and the peace found within.

Jeff Cannon

am a remodeling contractor in North Carolina and have been building furniture part time for the past 15 years. I have recently built a home off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Sparta, North Carolina for my wife and I. Being in such a scenic area of North Carolina with the mountains and nature all around us definitely inspires one to add the rustic touch, not to mention the abundance of laurel, oak, ash, hickory and maple trees which I incorporate into my furniture. The rustic elements allow the pieces I make to take on a life of their own and the finished product seems to just evolve. I spend a lot of my time in the woods searching for just the right branches and logs that make the perfect chair arms or bench seat. I am currently building a new workshop to one day go full time in my rustic career.
Please feel free to call or email me for prices or to discuss your next unique project

"The Willow Woman"

Jo moved from the Hudson Valley NY. to Mo. in 1995... and in 1997 started her rustic furniture business. She started out with the traditional bentwood style that willow is best know for. She has  since progressed to weaving the willow bark into basket, backs of chairs, lampshades, and cabinetry. If you would like to see more of  Jo's unique twist on working with willow you can e-mail her  at    spirittall@netscape.com or give her a call

Lang Hornthal rustic furniture

To a lover of all things handmade, it is a pure joy to own and cherish an authentic American-made piece of rustic furniture. Our beautiful log furniture, stairs and railings, and other elements for your home have their beginnings in the hills of North America where logs are harvested, or fine old materials are reclaimed, and sent to Appalachian Designs to be transformed into items of artistic and natural beauty.

Rustic Furniture is a tradition with a great history that has not only survived from its beginnings in China, but is now more popular than ever before. I began making rustic furniture in Northern Georgia in 1986 out of a need for seating around my camp. I started out using willow to create the traditional bent wood chair, settees, and tables. In 1991, I returned home to western North Carolina and began working more with woods found locally; my favorites include mountain laurel and rhododendron. Three years ago I began to incorporate copper into my designs, and most recently I have begun working with architects and homeowners to create structural and detail work in the rustic fashion.
