Fred Beckhorn

Natural Form Furniture
by Fred Beckhorn

I first saw and admired rustic furniture in the Adirondacks, where my family has camped for generations. My earliest pieces were made at the family camp on Union Falls Pond. I used materials like white birch and striped maple saplings joined with nails. After studying wood design and carving at Alfred University's College of Art and Design, I saw possibilities for lasting, well-crafted furniture made from wood as it has been worked by nature.

I handcraft fine rustic furniture and accessories with elegance and function in mind. I custom design each piece keeping the integrity of the tree from which it came from. John Finnan       This redesign of the traditional Adirondack is slightly higher, tilted forward, and shortened in the seat.  The result is a chair that has more the feel of an upholstered easy chair.  Superior lower back support and a design that is easily accessible make this a favorite chair for people of all ages.

John and Lisa Hogan

We love creating natural woodland artistry,   each piece being manipulated into perfection. Which includes Handrail's , indoor / outdoor , patio furnishings home decor, root stool's & even water features . Each piece is a signed original with mortise & tenon joinery. Our forms and shapes of timber all come true as nature can give us with no tree's being harmed in any way

As an artist he works in all woods with a particular fondness for weathered and found woods and other materials collected along the wild waterways of our continent. From the rich mix of found materials and carefully dried, premier grade milled woods, and other materials, he creates furniture

Ken Ferris  Bear Throne
Ken Ferris, an artist/designer from Boonville, New York, isn't afraid to meet any customer's challenge. Recent challenges included turning an old, neglected hunting camp into a vacationer's dream lodge. The deck of the master loft blended into the woodland scene carved on the double garage doors below. Inside the house, a double-sided entertainment center was hidden behind doors carved with a mighty black bear on the living room side, and a forest scene on the dining room side. Headboards on the beds featured moose, bear, deer and a Native American design out of birch. Birch and twig were also used for the dining room chandelier, which consisted of over 750 pieces. The 4x10 foot dining room table below comfortably seats twelve in maple and cherry seats, each constructed originally and with a personality of it's own. The living room mantel is a 17 foot carved and twigged masterpiece that would welcome any tired skier to it's hearth.

Kevin Goodspeed  Roots of Rustic Furniture : "The first piece of rustic probably emerged when an early humanoid rolled a log over and    sat on it in front of a fire " writes Ralph Kylloe in Rustic Traditions . Each culture has some examples of furniture which integrate natural forms -among them the Chinese tradition seems the oldest; a scroll called the Scholars of the Lui-Li  Hall depicts a man seated in a rustic chair, this dates from the tenth century. The 1754 English publication A New Book of Chinese Designs illustrated sophisticated applications for rustic work in formal gardens. Andrew Jackson Downing (1815-1852) brought these ideas to American readers in his writings of landscape design as well as in The Horticulturalist, the periodical he founded in 1846.
